Well I am glad you bring the SP news here I don't belong to any SP facebook groups, twitter, or other message boards so I don't really know what is going on unless it is via SP nexus, or William's facebook page...but they are all just linked to the Nexus...
Seriously...with today's technology, I don't think record companies are necessary...sort of like with writers, publishers are no longer necessary...so many can distribute their art on their own, in their own ways...BUT, only by having a label/publisher will a musician/writer get their product in big box stores like Target, B&N, Best Buy etc...but how many of those stores sell much music these days??? with the popularity of Itunes??? I know of many people who still go to shows, and who buy physical books...I don't think digital reading, is as popular as digital music??? my opinion...being able to see a live performance from ones living room would be great, but live shows are fun to go to also...But with that said, take for instance the Ravinia show, a one time show not all can travel to go see, therefore a live stream would have allowed those who couldn't make it, to see it also...could have done it like a pay per view event...

yeah, you're right about needing a label to have the easiest way to tap into the large markets, and right about the paradox of them not really selling/representing a lot of the real music that is out there.
I understand the theory about the internet being the future of music, one way or another. It's already been moving in that direction with downloads. Nothing will ever compensate for a live performance, but enough people will still want to participate in whatever way they can, if it's for a reasonable price. So I think the market is there, but yeah, just gotta find the way to tap into it.
Billy described this song as "epic" in an interview posted on Monte's site. That's terrifying.
Has anyone heard Being Beige played anywhere? I'm in LA. KROQ posts its playlist and while they play 3 to 5 Pumpkins songs a day (all off SD or MCIS, except the rare Landslide, Ava Adore or Eye), there's not one play of this one so far. They primarily play a mix of new songs and songs from 90s bands. They're playing new Bush for example, and have The Miracle of Joey Ramone on heavy rotation.
