Magick IS philosophy- because Magick is using your Will to accomplish something. The Will is the only spiritual force that you possess, and no item or trinket carries that. You can try to imbue it with your Will, and that might be a possibility, though I find it highly unlikely (thats just me though). Magick is more like making a journal- you imbue an object with a desire and keep it, and it reminds you of when you wanted something/thought that way.
The real power of Magick is the philosophy that comes with it- because Magick is my Will, and it is my want to affect what I see, I need to know what I am looking at to have power over it, and to decide if my Will can affect it. Now, you might say that its only Will and who cares if it affects it, it is subject to your Will- but the Truth is that that creature has its own Will. To know what you are looking at is philosophy, and to know what you desire is philosophy, and there may or may not be spirits and Gods that decide if your want is legitimate- certainly you are asking them for aid. Without knowing the Will of the God or spirit, it will not obey you. This leads you to consider the Gods and the spirits and wonder who has the power to aid you? What is a Demon? What is an Angel? You need to define these things, and that takes years. One can assume that the definitions and names available are valid, but it works best if you do this on your own. That is when you have to restructure the entire scope of the Universe and the God that made it to have real power. Personally I think calling on spirits is something to avoid, but I do know they answer, but what they have in mind is as hard to predict as whether you spell had any effect. It makes more sense that you study philosophy, and establish a hierarchy of knowledge surrounding the who what when where and why of things. Magick is perception- it relies on how you see and what you see, and you need to "know" what you are looking at before you can truly begin any effectual work, with words or with spellcraft. In my opinion, Magick is good to learn because it leads you to literature, and mathematics, and physics- not because you cast spells and imagine that you get your desire. I think the Gods laugh at people like that.
On another note, as I mentioned earlier, there is a subtle framework of mind/spirit that people possess that cross streams with one another through the senses. I dont think I can make you think anything without words as I sit here, but if you were in front of me, I could use my spirit sense and my body and its ability to make sound and movement to affect you. It might be possible to do this from afar, but I wouldnt hold my breath. If anyone is in charge of something like that its the Gods, and for them to assist you, you need to have a clear idea to present to them for aid. That again, is why Magick is philosophy. All of this makes up "Spirituality", which is simply the thought behind the Will- the Will is the spirit, the philosophy defines it.
