yeah, it's funny how we kind of just assume things about places we've hardly been to. We land there a few times and take some satellite pictures and basically seem to think it's just a big barren rock - which ok, it is - but there's more to it than that. The more we investigate, the more we can discover. That, and returning to the moon would be good for future space missions and could even be strategic in other ways...
