Everything is a symbol, and in every symbol there is a potential, and the actions of the symbol represent the result of the potential, which we examine and respond to according to our symbol set and expectations. When you can master every symbol and action, and reaction and combination, you can navigate the result and determine its value according to what you desire to see produced.

My friend added this to the definition of symbol as conveyed by "magickal" workings
i would also add that symbolic representations create a correspondence between the astral and the physical. On the astral form is represented as energy built with thought/intention. That energetic forn seeks a vessel for manifestation...as above, so below. The closer our symbolic representation is in function and sympathy to a physical means ro manifest, the easier it is for manifestation to occur. This is how spells either really hit the mark or the results are skewed. Ex if i say a pencil corresponds to a magick goal of traveling, it will manifest, but perhaps that pencil will be used in a letter to invite the magician. Now if i use the image of a car for traveling, this broadens the scope and likelihood for manifestation cause cars are used to travel, the more specific i am w this symbol on the astral the more in alignment i will find my magick aligning to the intention.
Im not in real dispute with this though I contest its accuracy.
