A VAT tax would've been added when buying crap. Can't recall the specifics, but I don't believe it would've been added to the grocery bill.
Only dickheads would raise costs.
Lots of people were concerned until explanations of different situations, it made sense. Give adults in a town an extra 1k, more $ goes into the town creating revenue for business owners. Also people wouldn't struggle so much with monthly bills.
It is what it is.
