good info for anyone looking at having some gemstones help with healing

I also had a black tourmaline but I am not sure where it is now.

Just out of curiosity - is there any scientific evidence any of this works beyond placebo effect? I'm not saying I think it's ridiculous ( I don't ) but I have to be a man of reason as well.

Greetings Gerik,

I will be honest. I am not sure that there is concrete, scientific proof that crystals help to heal. In my research, most of what I found were articles to the contrary. However, if you will indulge me, I will tell you what I feel to be true for me.

I believe crystals can assist in healing. I believe that the person/persons working with crystals as a healing tool, also have this belief/faith. Belief and faith cannot be proved scientifically, but they are at the core of many cultures, including our own. You cannot scientifically prove faith. Faith is belief with strong conviction; a firm belief in something for which there may be no tangible proof.

I also believe in energy, which CAN be scientifically proven. Everything contains energy.

With that said, let's start by looking at some scientific facts on how crystals are formed.

"The Geological/Scientific explanation is that crystals are the most stable form of matter in the Universe. This is due to their formation (birth) within the planet. The crystal’s journey begins deep below the planet’s surface where extremely hot fluids circulate (Hydrothermal veins) or where lava (molten rock ejected to the surface) is present.

Crystallization occurs when layers of the planet’s mantle, fractures, allowing heated gases and liquids, forced by extreme pressure, to rise towards the surface. This extremely hot “soup” also contains other elements such as water, oxygen, sodium, aluminum, calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron that have dissolved and merged with the other materials being pushed to the surface.

As this mixture rises and passes through cooler, less active layers of rock, crystals begin to grow in crevices and cavities. The crystals will form depending on specific environmental conditions and mixture of these elements. Other conditions include temperature, pressure, time and space. Exposure to the planetary elements such as wind, water, ice and light, also play their part in dictating formation, growth, shape, color, hardness and size.

Each step in the formation/birth of a crystal contains energy. Each mineral element has energy. Each planetary element contains energy. Location is also an important piece of the puzzle. Different areas of the planet hold different and unique energies, which will affect the crystal in its growth as well."

So, using this information, we know that everything contains energy. That includes crystals.

Let's take it a step further. Everything contains energy. That includes our bodies and mind. This can be scientifically proved by various brain wave technology, electrography,etc.

Everything contains energy. This energy can be of a high frequency (raising our vibration), a low frequency (grounding) and everything in between.

If your body is sick, your energy is low. This is because the body is working diligently to remove infection, toxins, etc. A fever (a type of energy) may present as an indicator that the body is using its amazing abilities to repair itself. Using all of the energy it has, it works overtime to remove the "invaders" from the body.

Crystals are simply tools to assist in this healing process. By using crystals with a specific vibration, they can enhance the body's energy. The energy of the crystal merges with the body's energy, strengthening the process to repair. Just like those crazy caffeine rich energy drinks boost our physical stamina/energy, crystals help to boost our energy vibration.

"Throughout history, civilizations of all types have recorded numerous crystal uses within their society. Many cultures, such as the Mayan and Native Americans, utilized natural crystalline energies for healing. Others formulated ways to harness these energies as a way to power their communities like those in Atlantis and Lemuria. Their civilization was based on the use of stored and directed application of crystal technology.

Crystals and their energy have been used in Shamanic practices as Talismans and in initiation ceremony/ritual for centuries. Other cultures used the crystal ball for scrying (divining the future through visions) and acquiring knowledge. The ancient Egyptians used crushed minerals like Lapis Lazuli and Malachite to create colorful dyes and make up. Is this scientific evidence? No, not really. However, it IS evidence. These cultures believed in the capacity to heal using crystals. I am sure there are many out there right now, who believe they have been helped/healed by the use of crystals in healing. I think the stories they share are evidence of the healing properties of crystals.

Let me share one example with you. What if you are depressed? The doctor will give you a pill, some type of antidepressant, that may have various side effects and yes, most of them do. What if you decided to use a natural anti depressant by working with a Lithium Quartz crystal or a Lepidolite tumble. If this crystal helped to relieve some of your symptoms, would you not try it? I know of several people who have shared their experiences as they weaned themselves off of their antidepressants and now enjoy great success in using crystals (like lithium in quartz, lepidolite, etc) instead.

I am not saying crystals are a cure all. They are tools to be used in the healing process. And for me, while it may not be scientifically proven, it is evidence that with a little faith, anything is possible.

Yeah, I think that's all legitimate. Faith/placebo effect are certainly legitimate if they work (and they can.)

The example about having a fever is an interesting one....but I'm not sure how the theory of "energy vibration" would help to restore your body's energy supply.

I certainly believe that crystals/stones can be used in arcane ways, since I believe in the supernatural and the divine. But as to how they are applied under the theory of "energy vibration" in terms of easing particular ailments, I don't know.

Can science measure the "energy" of a crystal? Or classify it? I would think if you could measure it or classify it, then it would then be proven to exist. If it is proven to exist, then you could determine what kind of effect, if any, it could have under a given scenario.

That's cool - has it helped you? Do you attribute it to placebo effect or an actual energy?

And no offense - but when I read about what it's used for, it reminded me of what a lot of schizophrenic people complain of....it's a common ailment that they often complain of radio waves from microwaves or power lines or something invading their brains, either unintentionally at random or somehow intentionally, by the government or something. I've come in contact with a number of schizos that complain of that stuff.

a coworker brought me a gift the other day for the holidays and she had made me a smokey quartz crystal attached to a necklace. I asked her today what stone it was. It nice and all my coworkers liked mine more than the ones that she made them. I looked up the infos on it and funny part is it's associated with Sagittarius and she does not know my bday! she a wise woman tho! I definitely like it!

I have a type of quartz, and I thought it was a smoky quartz, but now after looking at a lot of images of those, I don't think it is! It has small green seaweed-like threads inside it - looks pretty cool like a miniature scene inside the stone.

I have a collection of Moonstones...I get them at a place called Moonstone Beach in Cambria California...they are not easy to find, but can be done...

Some interesting lore about Moonstones

The Greeks named the gems Aphroselene after Goddesses Aphrodite and Selene...The Romans believed that the Goddess Diana can be seen in every moonstone...in Asia they believe every gem holds a solid ray of moonlight filled with good spirits...In India the moonstone is revered as a symbol of the third eye..and Europeans in the Middle Ages believed to gaze into a moonstone would invoke prophetic dreams...and it is also associated with the Archangel Haniel...and means Glory of God...

Known as talisman for protection, health and good fortune, moonstone was called the traveler's stone, it was used for protection on journeys. Many believed that the gem calmed anxiety and promoted harmonious relationships.

I've been experimenting with gems and crystals for awhile now...For me personally I don't believe that a crystal or gem in and of itself, has any magical powers so to speak, as in "I got such and such a crystal, and it will magically heal me or provide protection". I do however believe that crystals and gems  have properties within their make-up that can and do emit energy/vibration/frequency. That being said, I believe they can act as a transmitter or receptor of  energy...I believe some to have stronger frequencies than others...this is how I view crystals as healers..as in either helping to raise our vibrational field, or to maybe ground us...I have been told that I have a strong aura or electromagnetic field around me, many times when I am out shopping for example, everything I touch I shock...lol...seriously...drives me crazy...and it doesn't have to be dry or cold outside...I use crystals to ground me so to speak    and it does work...I have also had crystals get very HOT when I hold them..this just happened a few times last week as a matter of fact...I was holding some for a short while and they got real hot in my hand...also, went to a metaphysical shop when I was in Los Angeles last week, and I bought 2 crystals...I picked them out, was holding them for a few minutes while still shopping (had them in my hand for no more than five mins I believe) and when I gave them to the girl to ring up, she even said to me "wow these are hot", I  said yeah, that happens to me sometimes when I hold crystals..lol...

I find crystals, being from the earths core (within the earth) to be really fascinating and I do believe they hold and emit natural energy...that is why so many minerals are mined and quartz is used in electronic devices...I believe the ancients knew about some of the power they hold...

I had an odd occurrence happen to me today...

I was smudging, and also praying for guidance on channeling my energy, since I keep being told I have a strong aura...well anyway, not 30 mins after I finished smudging, I get a text message from a friend that I met through another friend, and have only ever seen three times, and haven't even talked to in months...well she texts me and says she has a ring she wants to give to me ASAP......I was confused thinking she messaged me by mistake and meant the message for someone else, so I asked her, if she was sure she wanted me to have this ring?  She replies YES...I feel you have uncontrollable energy (in a good way) and she needs to give me this ring...so I said well ok...then she says I want to bring it by tonight if you will be available...she said I need to have it soon as possible...?!?  so now she coming over later to give this ring to me...it is a crystal  ring, vintage...she says she got it 36 years ago at a gem shop that was on the boarder of 29 palms and yucca valley    which is also odd, for I was just in 29 palms and yucca valley....
