These programs strike at the very core of being a civilized society. Since mankind began gathering together there have always been those that contribute more than others to the benefit of the clan/tribe. There have been those whos wares are more valuable and whos labor has been more in demand. These folk were duly rewarded, and still are today- not much has changed. The fisherman and the hunter gather the food- did they keep it all to themselves or did they feed everyone?
To be against such things as social security and health care coverage and food for all, is short sighted. What would happen to you should you lose your fortune or your health? How would you survive? In some cultures those that fell ill or got old were ostracized and driven out. The deformed and infirmed and elderly who could not contribute were left to die. Today Christians champion the idea that their religion has changed this and we no longer do such things, yet a large part of those that oppose welfare and health care are Christians.

Social security is earned through hard work Welfare is not People use to help each other How about going back to that instead of a permenant generational crutch Some people need short term help Others want a lifetime free ride
ETA: Since you want to bring in religion. The bible says if a man doesn't work he doesn't eat. Sitting on your ass playing ps4 isn't work. My dad will be 80 and still working while some 20 year old in his moms basement is playing GTA V.

Maybe you shouldnt assume to know about other peoples finances either. If you get sick how will you pay for your medical bills and what if you are so sick that you cannot work, how will you pay for things like food and shelter. Making blanket statements that people are on welfare generation after generation is a poor assessment of reality. It may or may not be the case, but these programs are safety nets for people who need them too, and throwing it out and having them rely on charity is nonsense.
