Hey lifetime, I just edited the link to show the link. If you want to just show the link, you just post it and it will be a live link to the website. Is that what you wanted or were you trying to do something else? Also, welcome to the board!

Thanks Odin. In fact, my intent was to write a title over the link.
The saga around the last American election, the false news more shared than real facts on FB amongst other things caused serious interrogations and is frightening for many. I'm one of them. Wandering on the net, I saw this article and to see some positive impacts in the Santa Claus fantasy, I was curious to dig a little bit the subject.
What do you see as impacts from a fantasy like Santa Claus?
What's the link we can make between this kind of lies and those on social media?

What fake news are you referring to exactly? Just Facebook fake news, or mainstream media fake news?

During the holidays, I was intrigued by my 7 years old nephew. He's a smart little boy yet he believes in Santa Claus and his elves, the last commercial idea. I wonder if it is not to disappoint his parents who feed the myth with so much fun.
If the lies were all bad we would react strongly. What is good in lying?

It's all propaganda to sell an idea or product...It's doesn't take rocket science to figure that out...there will always be bias, everyone has an opinion, everyone has a theory...I personally read many different sources...doesn't matter to me if something is liberal, conservative, conspiracy...I read it all and come to my own conclusions... What lack of truth are we living with? OUR lack of truth, or someone elses version? My truth isn't going to be your truth...

Everyone is entitled to their own way of parenting...It is what one makes of it, heck even adults do the Santa thing...dress up at parties and play Santa, no harm...they know Santa isn't real, No harm in it really...But it is up to the parents to be open about such things and explain to the child the whole Santa myth... What about those who have to wear a uniform and act a certain way for their jobs? Isn't that dressing and acting differently while at work? If we all just had truth and no fantasy in our lives, wouldn't life be sort of boring and robotic? What of the creative mind if there were no fantasy? I'm not saying we should ALWAYS be in a state of untruth, for that is not healthy...just saying

Allow me to pose some thoughts to you lifetime...Why do you believe in the things you believe in? and do the things you believe in matter only if backed by "true facts"? and what exactly are the "true facts"? YES the subject is large...I would say unless someone is actually present during a said event, etc. they aren't going to get the TRUE story on something...example, let's say you have two people involved in an incident and the police come out to take a report, I am sure there will be two different versions of what happened...So what is the truth??? one has to be present to know the truth, and then it is truth based on the way said person perceives said incident...Having said that, I am not saying things like there is no truth to certain events that have happened, just saying there will be varying accounts of them... I know I personally believe in things that most would call crazy I'm sure...lol...but I could care less, I will continue to believe in what my heart tells me...I don't need facts to back my beliefs up...oh and I'm not talking Santa Clause

I do love fantasy. A space of creation, of freedom. When we're playing or drawing, we're not questioning if it's the truth or not. We're in the moment.

^^and if we watch a movie based on myth, does one not enjoy or get lost in the story, just because it isn't true...?

There is so much information given by so many different sources...many of which have an agenda, those who give false news to influence others, or use commercialization to sell a product, don't care about positive results...they just care about what they are trying to achieve...

I would say we all fantasize in one way or another, be it of better world, travel etc...I love history and antiques, I sometimes imagine what life was like in other periods of time...

Good for you if you read many different sources of information blackswan. My question is more about society in general. It seems to be said in the media that the truth counts less than before. Do you agree with that? It seems to me that we should add, "taking into account the knowledge's liberalization". 100 years ago, knowledge from the research was available to an elite only.
When you say that your truth isn't going to be my truth, you mean that our OPINIONS are different or may be different. That's it?
I believe there is difference between truth and opinion. Our opinion is linked to our own capacity (intellectual, social, etc.) and our will (interest and desire to know) when the truth is seen as the most largely consensual as possible.
This truth is known to be moving because of the knowledge's development yet we try to share it internationally for a more solid foundation. Thus our decisions which are major and vital for the whole world can be taken with a more reliable basis.
When everyone seeks to have an identity with an opinion, the world NEEDS some foundation. When we are at a blink of extinction, to seek some truth has importance.
