The world I live in, it's neither a label nor a cliché, it's a daily struggle, inside and outside... sometimes, you win. sometimes, you lose. Corgan calls people like me "ugly pigs", while some of you are speaking of a cliché. Both statements take any good feeling of self-worth away from people like me. Learn from your insensitiveness, please, and try to understand with the heart, not the mind. That would save a lot of tears and lives, everybody. Thanx. I don't know if you'll agree with me, it seems that we have right now a kind of stream about transgender. We put in the same basket appropriation, rebellion about gender clothing which appears really different of the transgender's struggle.
The rejection's feeling in our youth, no matter the reason, has lasting impacts and in the first place on our self-worth. Even if, hopefully, we mitigate the effects, we have to learn living with all our life.
Without realizing it too much, these films have a great impact changing slowly mentalities.
I saw a documentary not a long time ago about a young person (teen) who have been really not happy as a girl till she read a transgender' story in the newspaper. Suddenly, for her, life changed. She knew what to do. It was astonishing also to see the "easiness", this change was accepted in his family. We have to say, he learnt just at this moment that he had 2 sexes at birth and the recommandations at this time were, for the parents, to chose one of them. So, it wasn't a so great surprise for the family. But more surprising, he said the transformation was also well accepted at school and in his environment (small town). I believe that speaking about it, making movies, writing help to change the views about it.

Ive worked with 2 transgenders. Both were women who were transitioning to being male. Most people become confused and are rude to these two in the work place, even some of the coworkers. The trans person would be offended and upset if someone slipped up and said "she" or "her" I did my best reminding, correcting and informing people that they should address them as male, him, he. It wasnt difficult for me to respect their indentity. Their voices were feminine and still had femininity to their face, so I can understand why people made an assumption to say "she" or "her" Transgenders also should be understanding that people wont always know right away while in transition. They too become offended because they were wrong when making the assumption of their gender. Both of them have quit. I hope the best for them in life. Good people and glad I got the chance to become their go to person to talk to at work when they needed to vent and make it through their shift. People taking the time to listen rather than assume, brush them off, and rush to their next task makes a difference in relations with people.
