my house is sorely lacking in art and our walls are mostly bare. i would like to put some art up, but i also want it to be something that has significance to me of some kind. there is lots of nice generic type art that you can buy at target or some other place, and of course you can look for things online...but i have been considering maybe painting some pieces to put on the walls.
i've never really painted anything before of any quality, so it would be very much a learning process. and i wouldn't want to put anything up that wasn't good quality.
anyway, the wife seems to be okay with the idea. not gonna happen anytime soon since i got school bogging me down at the moment...but we'll see.

You should totally make some art with your son Christopher...let him dip his hands in some paint and have at it on a nice piece of paper (you can buy watercolor paper etc) it looks like abstract and it is sentimental at the same time...put it in a nice frame and you have some unique and significant art

I have lot's of vintage art on my walls..and my daughters art...also a good idea is to frame old vinyl record covers..some of them are works of art in themselves...you could buy only ones that have a significance to you...another idea is to get old photos and blow them up...go back as far as you can in your family history...we have some with family from the 1800's covered wagons and all...they look really nice blown up and they tell a story...your story ♥

the stuff with Christopher sounds like a good idea i could try for his room, though for the rest of the house i'd like something more adult. also good ideas about the family history and the vinyl albums....i don't have any though except for the Teargarden stuff...though my parents have tons.
i'm currently thinking of pastoral or forest scenes, english countryside type stuff....i have one image in mind of a fox in the forest on the hunt for something, and maybe another of a deer family...stag, doe, foals....maybe a cottage in the background. nothing super original about it...but it's just relaxing imagery for the home, and those particular images represent some things to me metaphorically in my mind.
like i said, i'd need to really work on my art skills to make it happen in the way i envision. something i'm willing to do very much, just need to find the time for it. as it is, i already have a research paper on business law due in 3 days. which i haven't started on yet.

Those images you mentioned do sound nice you could find vintage ones like that If you had the time to look..but if you wanted to create them yourself well, that would be some work especially if you have never painted etc... I have one with a collage in the background and a pond with ducks in it...very European countryside looking...but I found it at thrift shop What are you waiting for boy...get a move on!!! I expect you to get a A/B on your research paper

I have 2 Currier and Ives plates in a box.
You'll do good on your exam! Also thrift stores are great places for finding art!

blackswan, you give really interesting way to put art on our walls. It has to have a meaning for the person enjoying their view. I like to be in a place where my eyes see images giving me a smile in heart. It may be the beauty we see in them or it may be the remembering of happy moments. Someone else could see that without beauty because their inner beauty is greater than their external. It’s all the meaning they have in my eyes. It’s more than a picture, it’s years of shared love in some cases, in others it’s beautiful weeks remembered. I like this one, really simple yet looking vintage. I bought it during a trip for what I have good memories.

I love your art piece YES, I do think art speaks to us all in different ways, it is a way we express ourselves or an expression of ourselves, or a memory even if we did not make the art

that's a sweet picture, matelsie.
the beauty of simple things is something that grows on you as you get older, i think. when you're young, you maybe notice beautiful birds, but you don't have the patience to go bird-watching or something. but now something like that starts to appeal to me. it's cool to see the beauty in "ordinary" creations we see every day, and to realize their uniqueness. the differences between robin and thrush, bluejay and bluebird, etc, etc, etc.
